Where did you and your partner meet?
We had mutual friends and for a long time they were trying to set us up. Neither of us wanted to be set up so that never eventuated. We happened to go to the same university and one day Callum saw and recognized me from a balcony and decided to chase me down to say hi. Luckily at the time I stopped to replenish my chocolate supply at a vending machine and Callum was able to catch up to me. We went and grabbed a coffee and the rest is history.
Tell us about the proposal?
We drove down to Tweed Heads for the weekend after a busy week. On Saturday morning we woke up early to walk up Mount Warning as this mountain has sentimental value to me and my family. Callum proposed on the mountain.
Why did you choose your ceremony and reception venues?
We love Byron Bay and spend every free weekend we have down there. The first venue we looked at in Byron was Figtree Restaurant and we fell in love with it the moment we walked in. The beautiful gardens, the view, the staff were all amazing and every venue we looked at after did not compare. Not only is the venue amazing but the food was incredible (we still have people talking about the food at our wedding) and the staff were so helpful we didn’t have to lift a finger.
Tell us about your dress?
My dress is a custom design made by the wonderful Christina Kim. I showed Christina styles I liked and we came up with a design that was perfect. It is a French lace bodice with a sweetheart neckline, an organza skirt with a few ruffled layers and a beautiful train. I loved the detail of the lace which spilled over the top and bottom of the bodice, it gave the dress a beautiful feminine touch. Christina was so easy to work with and created a beautiful piece I loved wearing. I also had a pair of beautiful bright pink Aminah Abdul Jillil shoes with oversized bows on the ankle which Christina beautifully incorporated into the theme. I had my heart set on these shoes before any other part of the wedding.
Describe your bouquet?
The bouquets were a mix of pale pink peonies, peach David Austin roses and foliage. I absolutely loved the flowers that Jess from Poppy & Rose created. She did a wonderful job.
What was your favourite part of the wedding day?
Our favourite part of the wedding day was being able to have our family and friends in the one place and celebrate with them. It was such a great weekend celebrating, particularly the recovery the next day.
Did you have any quirky or perhaps non-traditional elements to your wedding?
I am very close with my Brother and I really wanted him to be bridesmaid (brideslave). I loved having him stand beside me on such a wonderful day. Him and my sister were my Bridesmaid and Bridesman of honour and performed an awesome speech together which consisted of a few hilarious and sweet poems.
What about you and your partner were reflected in your wedding day?
Callum and I both have such a relaxed attitude and we loved the laid-back nature of the day and being able to celebrate with our family and friends. This was made possible by the venue staff and all our vendors.
Where were your photos taken?
Our photos were taken around the Figtree Restaurant property. We loved the different areas with the natural landscapes, beautiful backdrops and stunning sunset. It also made it easy for us as we didn’t have to travel anywhere and could spend more time at the reception.
Tell us about the photography?
We absolutely loved having Amanda and the team from We are Twine capture our wedding day. Amanda was so easy to work with and such a pleasure to be around that it made our day so much better. Callum and I don’t enjoy having our photos taken, but Amanda made the process so comfortable and easy and this was reflected in our beautiful photos. With so many great photos it is so hard trying to choose our favourite.
Is there a funny story that perhaps happened on the day of your wedding that you would like to share?
One of the groomsmen turned up on the day with the wrong suit. Not only the wrong suit but the wrong colour suit. The day was saved when his Father drove from Brisbane to Byron to deliver the correct suit, just as the boys were hopping in the car to come to the ceremony. In his defense he is colour blind, however I don’t think he will be living it down anytime soon.
